My name is Melissa Harvey and I serve as the Instructional Facilitator at Wood Elementary School. I have been in education for 19 years. I have taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. I am new toThis is my 2nd year at Wood. I was at Congaree elemetary for 9 years before coming to Wood.
As the Instructional Facilitator, I get to work with all teachers and students to make Math,Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies more fun and easier to learn. I help teachers plan activities and units in all subjects and also help with assessments.
I grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. When I graduated from high school I came to USC to go to college. I graduated in 1990 from University of South Carolina with a degree in Elementary Education and never left Columbia. I then returned to USC to complete my Maters Degree in Natural Sciences in 1997. I received National board Certification in 2002.
I am married to Mr. Gene Harvey and we have two children Hunter and Tyler. Hunter is 11 soon to be 12 and Tyler is 6 soon to be 7. We live in Irmo.
I love GAMECOCK football, soccer, and traveling. I also enjoy working at The South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston.

SUMMER MATH AND SCIENCE SCAVAENGER HUNT
Can you guess what lots of our students did this summer? That's right they participated in the Math and Science Scavenger Hunt. Rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students were given the scavenger hunt in their report cards at the end of the school. The goal was for them to see that math and science is everywhere!! Be sure to come to the library to checkout these neat projects. These students will get to enjoy a nice treat with me in the next week!! Great work!!
